Excel
Corp. of Cargill Foods
Humboldt Industrial Park
Hazleton, PA
The Excel project was for a complete turnkey electrical infrastructure
for the Case Ready Packaging Division of Cargill Foods, a beef and pork
packaging company. Under extreme time restraint, Arc Electric designed,
furnished and installed the required power distribution, lighting, power
outlets, fire alarm, security, CCTV sound communication systems and
fit out of machinery. Working with Project Managers from Suitt Construction
Co., Arc completed the project in record breaking time. With over 50
electricians working multiple shifts and 25,000 man-hours, the project
was finished in less than six monthson budget with no lost time
injuries. The specs covered a diverse range of electrical work completed
during building construction:
- Temporary power from utility company source
- Main switchboards for digital metering, phase failure, tvss, and
ground fault protection
- Disconnect switches, wiring and connections to electrical doors,
process/support equipment, HVAC and plumbing, NH3 compressor starters,
furnished equipment starters
- Dry transformers, 277V power circuits in each cooler, 50 ampere
480/3/60 twist-lock welding receptacles
- Metal halide lighting fixtures, including various process locations
and roof area of condensors
- Fluorescent lighting in attic areas, office and welfare areas, dock
lighting, exit signs, and parking areas
- Systems including telephone servic
e and dedicated lines, data jacks, and conduits to computer room and
offices
- Hydrogen and NH3 sensors, alarms, and ventilation systems
- Multizone fire alarm system with manual pull stations, waterflow
detection, horn/light units and control panels
YM/YWCA
Downtown
Hazleton, PA
When ready to renovate their entire building, remove an unsightly front
structure, and add a therapy pool, expanded fitness center, and racquetball
court, YM/YWCA decided it would be better to hire a construction manager
and team players to design, furnish, and install the various infrastructure
required. Berger Construction Co. chose Arc as its electrical professional.
We are currently working with the Y and CM to deal with old electrical
systems that need replacing or updating, as well as new systems to meet
ADA standards and National Electrical Code. The project is set for completion
in 2/03 depending on weather. Arc President, Bob Judd, has taken the project
under his wing due to personal knowledge of the Y and civic involvement.
He coordinates day-to-day activities and manpower, solves problems, and
suggests ways to save cost while meeting the challenges of keeping all
operations functional.

Arc Warehouse
& Office Expansion
West Hazleton, PA
Arc Electric has finished constructing our new warehouse facility! This
facility has helped to make room for storing our growing fleet of vehicles
and materials. We're also expanding our offices to accommodate the increased
work load and customer base, as well as make room for our growing management,
sales, and estimating staff.
Johns
Manville
Valmont Industrial Park,
West Hazleton, PA
Arc Electric was hired to completely upgrade new and existing equipment
for the new Pentane infrastructure. The installation required vast knowledge
of working in a "classified hazardous location." We were responsible
for proper grounding of all systems, providing explosion-proof fittings
and equipment, installing lightning protection on tanks, interfacing equipment
with PLC's and environmental monitoring systems. As the project evolved
there were many changes and additional time restraints. Arc once again
met the challenges head-on, working with Johns Manville engineers to complete
the project and checkout of systems within the allotted time frame.
Hershey
Chocolate USA
Humboldt Industrial Park,
Hazleton, PA
Engineers at Hershey's local facility rely on Arc Electric to support
their engineering and plant maintenance needs. Our familiarity with PLC
controls is key to our ongoing relationship. Our continued safety programs
and knowledge of FDA cleanliness standards have fostered an excellent
working relationship. In 2001 we completed the fast paced "Global
Project." Arc designed systems on-the-fly, anticipating last minute
changes, moves, and additions. General Foreman Jon Blewett did an outstanding
job managing the 50+ employees, handling daily paper work, and coordinating
multiple activities.
2002/2003
We are working on another fast paced project call the "Revised Packaging
Line." This job entails complete revising of their existing packaging
equipment. We're working with engineers from around the worldplanning,
designing, and installing the latest packaging technology. Arc Electric
is proud to be part of the Hershey team, and looks forward to many new
and exciting challenges.
Can-Do Building
Can-Do Corporate Center,
Hazleton, PA
Can-Do needed an office shell building of 45,000 sq. ft., including all
amenities. We worked with a local GC to develop a scope of work and budget.
The building, located at the front entrance to the Can-Do Corporate Center,
is a showpiece - but was not without challenge. While under construction,
two companies were considering occupying the entire building. We revamped
the electrical design to fit their particular needs and still brought
the job in on time and budget.
Quebecor
Printing
Humboldt Industrial Park,
Hazleton, PA
Quebecor Printing has been in the Hazleton area since 1989, beginning
as NADCO Inc. We originally did this job as a subcontractor, and developed
a good working relationship with the plant engineer. Since then, we have
been providing electrical support when needed. Our involvement includes
machine wiring, maintenance of their substations, the design/build of
two additions, and the designing of the power for a new stand-alone air
compressor building, fire alarm, security and wiring for their composition
and pre-press areas, plus all computer cabling. Quebecor is always upgrading
and Arc Electric is behind them every step of the way.
